A walk through the rajbari

A rajbari is one of old Kolkata's family mansions: a courtyard of red floors and white alpana, green shutters, long verandahs. This invitation is a walk through one, gateway after gateway, down to the ghat.

It opens the way a Bengali bride is first seen — two betel leaves lowered, to the sound of the ulu.

A digital biyer card: sent as a link, it reaches Kolkata, Bangalore and London on the same evening.

How Rajbari opens

Two betel leaves are lowered to show your names, and guests walk through an old Kolkata rajbari, gateway after gateway, down to the ghat.

  1. 01

    Lower the betel leaves

Two betel leaves held up. One tap, the ulu sounds, and they are lowered to show your names over the rajbari gate.

  2. 02

    Through the courtyard

Guests walk in as they scroll — white alpana on a red floor, green shutters, marigolds — and your families' words appear.

  3. 03

    Photos along the verandah

Your story in the long corridor, and your photos hung on its walls as guests walk past.

  4. 04

    A room for every ceremony

Through a carved door, a room for each: turmeric and a rohu fish for the haldi, alta for the mehendi, the topor and mukut for the wedding, rosogolla and sandesh for the reception.

  5. 05

    Down to the ghat

Through the back gate to the ghat at dusk, Howrah Bridge far off, counting the days left.

  6. 06

    A diya for every wish

Night falls on the river with শুভ বিবাহ, and every wish floats as a diya.

Questions families ask

Can we name the ceremonies in Bengali?

Yes. Rename any ceremony the way you say it at home — Ashirbad, Gaye Holud, Aiburobhat, Biye, Bou Bhaat — or add one of your own.

Can it show the lagna?

Yes: "The lagna is at 9:12 pm; please be seated by 8:45", with the evening's programme — the seven circles, the first look under the betel leaves, the garlands.

Is it only for a Kolkata wedding?

No. The rajbari is Kolkata's, but the invitation suits a Bengali wedding wherever it is held.

Is the invitation in Bengali?

The words are in English so everyone can read them, and the night at the ghat closes on শুভ বিবাহ.

What does it cost?

Try it and change it for free; it's ₹1,999 once to send it to every family.
